20 things to do over the last 20 days of summer

  1. Go see a movie. The Citadel IMAX has $4 movies on Tuesday and Thursday’s that include a snack basket with popcorn, drink and mini-candy. The Terrace has free movies on Wednesday’s. Check out their Facebook pages for updated info.
  2. Find an outdoor movie at your local park, hospital or farmers market. The Town Market on James Island, MUSC and other local parks have a couple of movie nights left this summer. Facebook is a great resource here too.
  3. Throw an ice cream party with friends.
  4. Have a water balloon fight. These are a must have.
  5. Go to one of the county water parks. After 3pm, they’re half price and less crowded.
  6. Walk around downtown looking for historic/famous landmarks like the Hat man and the Pineapple Fountain.
  7. Take a bike ride to somewhere that feels like an adventure such as a local nature spot for a picnic or even a nearby restaurant.
  8. Take the kids shopping for new book bags and back to school clothes.
  9. Make cookies and lemonade for the mail delivery, recycling and garbage crew.
  10. Find a unique, local adventure like kayaking, ghost tours, sailing or surf lessons. I linked our favorites.
  11. Take the kids to listen to live music. The Pourhouse has afternoon deck shows that are kid friendly.
  12. Hit up your local farmers market, many of these also have live music.
  13. Take a weekend road trip to Columbia and visit Riverbanks Zoo and EdVenture.
  14. Have a family game night. Catan, Clue, Sorry and Uno are a few of our favorites.
  15. Declutter the kids rooms. Get them involved!
  16. Visit your local library and set aside some time to read together such as in the heat of the day or before bedtime.
  17. Check your local sporting goods store for water toys that might be on “end of the summer sale” like slip-in-slides, blow up pools, rafts or water guns.
  18. Seed a fall garden. Check with your local garden shop for the best seasonal varieties.
  19. Build a blanket fort and let your kids sleep in it.
  20. Build a cozy palette on the floor, pop some home-made popcorn and have a family movie night.

I hope you’ve all had an incredible summer. It’s been our best one yet. I’d love to hear how you plan to spend your last days. Comment below!
