Best Summer Sandals for Kids
My kids have gotten to be pretty particular about their footwear. In the summer, they only wear sandals or flip flops. We have tennis shoes and boots but they won’t wear them when it’s hot and I don’t blame them. Southern summers are not joke. Who wants to wear socks when it’s 100 degrees? Every year I make sure they have a pair of flip flops and a pair of sandals that will be more secure on their feet. 95% of the time, they are wearing flops.
Especially when they were younger, I was very particular about their footwear. I would only buy shoes that I was certain would be comfortable. Now, the boys are old enough to tell me if they like something or not. The following are shoes that they have either worn or that I have worn the adult version. I am not getting paid to promote any of these brands, these are shoes that I feel really good about recommending. I know most of these companies well and have worked with them over the years through The Backpacker. Here are some of our favorites . . .
Flip Flops
I have included boy and girl options below. This will be Elle’s first year wearing flip flops so we’ll see how that goes. They all started wearing flops around 2 years old.
Teva Mush II – They make a toddler version that has a back strap but my kids never liked the strap so we always cut it off. These are super comfortable and reasonably priced.
Olukai Ohana and Kulapa Kai – Olukai’s are quite possibly the most comfortable shoes that I have ever owned. The boys have been wearing their shoes and flops for years.
Birkenstock –Boys Arizona and Girls Gizeh. They’re back in style folks and for good reason, they’re comfortable.
Water and Sport Sandals
Great for the beach, water parks and running around being a kid.
Keen Newport – I feel comfortable recommending all Keens – shoes and sandals. The boys wore these for years and now Elle is wearing them. They are comfortable, easy to put on and offer more protection than some other sandals out there.
Teva – We have had many pairs of Teva sandals. They have comfortable foot beds and most of the straps are lined so they are soft. The only style that I wouldn’t recommend is the Hurricane.
Chaco – These sandals are comfortable and secure on foot.
Hoy Sandals– These are so cute and surprisingly can be worn in the water and to the beach! I like them because they’re also good for more formal occasions.
Natives – Elle has been wearing these for awhile but I haven’t tried them for the boys. They are easy to clean with spongy foot beds that seem really comfortable.
All of the links that I’ve included are to the vendor sites but I bet you could find them on Ebay as well. If you want to shop local, check the following shops.
